  • Worcester receives the second lowest amount of State Aid per Pupil in Maryland.
  • State aid is approximately 17.9% of the budget.
  • Due to the State funding formula, our schools depend on county funding.
  • 76.4% of the school system budget is locally funded.
  • 5.7% includes federal grants, tuition, and other sources.

  • An Operating Budget of $88.5 million for the 2008-2009 school year provides programs and services for close to 6,800 students.
  • 100% of all education funds are spent to support children and schools.
  • 81% of the budget is spent directly in the classroom.  This includes teachers, instructional materials, supplies, and equipment to serve students every day.
  • 10% of the budget funds the operation and maintenance of our facilities, including utilities, custodial services, equipment repair, and minor building renovations.
  • 6% of the budget provides daily school bus transportation for students.
  • 2% provides financial and administrative support services to teachers and instructional programs.
  • 1% of the budget funds school nurses, health materials, and other health services for students.
